Quaker Wisdom for Today

"A major issue for the Society of Friends today is whether its emphasis is to be, once more, for this type of open, expectant religion, or whether it is to seek for comfortable formulations that seem to ensure its safety.”

-- Rufus Jones

Jones said this in 1940... hmmmm....

Provocation of the day:
Which is the more comfortable formulation: SPICE or "Take up your cross and follow me?"

Given those choices, which would Rufus Jones opt for?

Hmmm, I wonder if the two are exclusive? Is it one vs the other -- or both/and. SPICE and "Take up your cross and follow me." To take up my cross and follow Jesus is different than my picking up my brother or sister's cross -- or describing to them exactly what that cross is.
